Nah, ZB4 speed equals to mudbox + maya, i would say mudbox + maya = film production, it's real 3d and for some reason it make me feel like you create photo-real stuff, but zb is really dictating that CGish comic book style modeling, especially with it's shaders, by the mood zb is perfect for the game design and comicbook sculptures prints.

I'm disappointed in ZBrush I bought 3.5 this year and got fed all the hype about 4.0 allot of the stuff in 4.0 just seems like eye candy and too much headache to get your grubby little fingers around. There is something lacking in the features department, as if it was just regurgitated for show and kicks.

Shadow Box is a feature I had high hopes for early teasers made it seem like "the box modeling replacement"...yes yes I know here's to hoping. Instead it's turned out to be a vile unintuitive beast that feels like your doing paper cut outs in 3d like WTH was Pixo thinking?

The brushes are nothing special, their nice but not special. The whole package just seems to be a giant update with a number change and like all software a new price upgrade pffft.

Feels like I spent my money on a pricey toy to borrow an analogy: It feels like the Spore editor gone wild!

tinytimw69: Thanks

Andrew: Appreciate that, thanks!

jwright: Jon let me know what you think when you get it installed. I failed to mention Timeline because I dont really see myself using it in my workflow.

carnak: Thank you. I try and be as unbiased as I can. ;)

JThompson: Thanks. One can only hope Pixo catches on. ;)

SGrell: Thanks! Always looking for the next best thing and trying to get down as much as possible while doing it.

Ryan Harrison: Thank you. I am very familiar with the Shadow Box skin res. I beta tested it for a few months. I guess to clarify I want to be able to reconstruct subdiv history. Nice work on your site btw.

Great review but in regards to ShadowBox producing too high of a polycount, this can be controlled. From the ZB4 documentation:
"ShadowBox is based on Unified Skin technology...(it) uses Voxels with the RemeshAll functions. Changing the RemeshAll settings will affect the quality and results of the ShadowBox object." Lower setting produce a lower poly mesh.

Hi Gregg,

I also have all of the applications you have reviewed. It's expensive to have them all. I think your review is spot on and I'm sure we both would do a lot more work if we weren't constantly experimenting with all this software.
